OOOOOOO

BAMAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

Yup. Everyone here is just as excited about our new president-elect as is everyone else around the world. There were several all-night election parties here in Kampala, starting anywhere from midnight to 4am, and lasting until everyone cried their last tear of joy, gave their last whoop of joy, breathed their last sigh of relief, or downed their last sip of Champagne (at 7am). Local papers and tv and radio stations, who have followed the American elections religiously, gave the win coverage beyond coverage. Kenya declared Thursday a public holiday. Obama t-shirts and posters and bumper stickers and cloth are commonplace. And in Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania alike, Aliya and Heida and I were met with pumping fists and rousing cheers of "Obamaaaa!"

Yes we can.

I'm proud to be an American.
