It seems to be true, what they say…all good things must come to an end. A week and a weekend after
The Arrival (2+ months ago, by the time this is posted), it was time for The Departure. After lunching with the Kampala crew at Efendy’s, stocking up on souvenirs at the National Theatre, and packing purchased keepsakes into suitcases, there was one last thing to check off the list: get a rolex.
Not a Rolex, but Uganda’s “rolled eggs” – an omelet cooked on metal hot plates by street vendors, and rolled inside a chapati (Indian bread). Rolex’ are an important part of Ugandan food culture, originating not so long ago (the early 2000’s, according to Wiki) near Makerere University, as a cheap way for students to get a filling meal. So, we pulled over on the side of the road on our way to the airport to take in that last bit of Ugandan cuisine. Deeelicious.

The final bit of excitement was one we couldn’t have anticipated. Moments before arriving at the airport, we were part of the reason a truck had to jump the median, leaving us unharmed, but his vehicle in pain.
Nothing like going out with a bang.
