A week ago, UHMG launched NewFem, their new lifestyle oral contraceptive for today’s trendy woman. With the slogan, “Free your mind,” NewFem targets a wealthier segment of the market, with a focus on young, professional women who don’t want unplanned pregnancy to get in the way of their career and life goals.
Meredith and I put on our best “trendy woman” outfits and joined the gang at the Sheraton for the launch. A guy/girl comedy team kept everyone in stitches with their MC skills, and there were readings by poets and performances by local radio personalities/musicians/dance groups and speeches by members of the UHMG team and a token gynecologist.

They had prizes well worth competing for (gift certificates to spas, vouchers for overnights in nice hotels) and competitions that kept the crowd entertained. At one point, teams of three were expected to create their own tv spot for NewFem. The line most likely to never make it into an actual tv spot?
“I’m expecting my menses.”
This was almost, but not quite outdone by the poofy pink and purple NewFem dresses…
accompanied by pill pack earrings.

So, you think I can get a pair of those pill pack earrings? I think they would be a huge hit at our contraception policy meetings.
