While I intentionally planned my trip so that I'd get to see Obama's swearing in, I had absolutely no idea that I was also going to get to see him in Baltimore. As part of his whistle-stop tour, modeled after the train route Lincoln took for his 1861 inauguration, Obama stopped in Philadelphia, Wilmington and Baltimore the Saturday before the big day. Aliya and I bundled up and joined the crowds to watch him speak.
Almost as exciting as Barack himself were the number of snipers hanging out on the tops of buildings. We felt like we were in a movie. Here, Aliya and snipers:

The day's quotable moments:
“Obama’s already helping the economy!”
–Street vendor surprised and overjoyed by his successful t-shirt/button/other assorted paraphernalia sales
“I love you back.”
– Obama taking a time-out mid-speech to acknowledge an admiring fan
We were actually pretty close, in that, if you stood on your toes and waited patiently for the moments when people’s heads would part in just the right way, you could actually see. The very nice, very tall gentleman next to me was able to take this (if you squint really hard, you can make out Barack at the podium, someone I should probably know next to him, then Michelle, Joe, and Jill):
