Like everywhere else in the world besides the U.S. (slight exaggeration, perhaps), the date is written here as day/month/year, which, when it appears as 29/07/08, for instance, is pretty easy to recognize and remember. However, this style choice caused a great moment of panic, when, last night, I saw the expiry date on my yogurt was 07/08/2008. For several seconds, I thought I had overshot it by 21 days and was contemplating regurgitation, before I realized with relief that I still had another 9 days to go.

Since we know the year is 08 and there is no way there are 29 months in a year there was only 1 logical explanation for that date. There will be more sympathy for you if this happens again at the beginning of the month. send me your address and I'll send you some with American exp dates on them.
